Vive le Québec libre

Malajube was just one of those bands I always listened to in high school. I couldn’t speak French back then, but they just had this energy that translated itself in songs like Montreal -40ºC. However this particular song was much more somber, and I never particularly cared for it because it just didn’t have that pop like their others did.

Nevertheless when I saw my newest favorite Québécois musician, Cœur de Pirate, covering this in her most lilting voice, I was intrigued and finally satisfied. Her voice truly captures the emotion better than Malajube’s original. Unfortunately there are only live videos, but here’s a link to a cleaner sounding, downloadable file.
